Simon Johnson is the Director of Regional Geoscience at the Geological Survey of Western Australia where he has worked for the past 14 years. 

He graduated with a PhD in tectonics from the University of St Andrews in Scotland and has worked in several post-doctoral positions in Australia and Japan before joining the geological survey. Since joining the survey, most of his time has been spent unravelling the tectonic and mineralization history of the Proterozoic Capricorn Orogen. He spent four years as the Chief Geoscientist and now leads the Regional Geoscience Directorate that contributes to the understanding of the complex geology the State and its relation to mineral and petroleum resources.
