Steven Petersen is the Undersecretary of Climate Change within Ecuador’s Ministry of Environment. Lawyer, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws from the Catholic University of Guayaquil (Ecuador) and Master of Environment from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Until recently, he owned and managed a consulting company (Ecomental Consulting) which provided advice to local mining companies on environmental and mining law compliance issues including Chinese SOE Yankuang Group, Minchoa Mining, Latingold Mining,
Terranova Drilling and Inversur Mining.

He also provided advice to the UN Development Program, the EU’s Euroclima+, Conservation International, the Biodiversity and Natural Resources Committee of Ecuador’s Congress and the Ministry of Environment in Ecuador.

Among Steven’s achievements include his work to draft comprehensive regulations to govern Ecuador’s first Environmental Code, the “Reglamento al Código Orgánico del Ambiente” in early 2018.
