‘We need to create safer workplaces … This is what critical risk management is all about’

IMARC conference director Kimberly White speaks with myosh director Adrian Manessis and Josh Bryant, general manager, people, risk and sustainability at leading drilling contractor, Mitchell Services, about critical control management trends, technologies and consequences.

Manessis says there is plenty of evidence pointing to the effectiveness of well deployed critical control management methods and systems. “It will reduce and minimise fatalities,” he says. “We have the solution available.”

Says Bryant: “This is about high-consequence events and preventing those.

“There is the ESG component of this as well … This is ethically the right thing to do. We need to create safer workplaces and stakeholders, shareholders and the wider community are expecting more and more businesses to create a safe working environment, a psychologically safe working environment, but also an environment that is free from fatalities.

“And that is what critical risk management is all about. It’s actually driven by community; it’s driven by our shareholders … and the wider public wants to see mining as a safe place to work.”
