Ashley Preston has 15 years’ experience in the natural resources sector in Canada and Australia, with a focus on market analysis and strategy.
Originally from Canada, Ashley joined BHP in 2015 at their Jansen Potash Project in Saskatoon where she developed BHP’s long-term potash market outlook and entry strategy. She relocated to Melbourne in 2018 with her family to be the first Head of Portfolio Strategy, leading a team that examined long-term trends in the external environment and their potential impact to BHP, including: the emergence of the circular economy, climate change, and the evolving relationship between China and the West. Ashley was instrumental in the 2020 BHP board engagements that resulted in major changes to BHP’s portfolio and a pivot towards future facing commodities.
In her present role as Head of Climate Resilience, she leads BHP’s work to understand and adapt to the physical risks of climate change, building its portfolio of investments in natural climate solutions, and supporting the development of a robust market for high quality carbon offsets.
Ashley has a Masters degree in Economics, from the University of Calgary. She lives in Melbourne with her partner, two children, and her dog Fred.
