Bella Melov is in her third year of a double degree in Mining Engineering (Honours) and Commerce (Finance) at UNSW.
After her first year, she gained hands-on underground experience through an internship at BHP’s Broadmeadow Mine, working with the longwall crew before continuing part-time in the mine planning team as an undergraduate mining engineer. Following her second year, Bella broadened her experience in an open-pit production engineering role at Evolution Mining’s Cowal Gold Operations. She now works two days a week in Evolution’s Group Technical Services team, continuing to develop her skills in long-term planning and asset management.
Bella is also actively involved in the mining community – captaining the Sydney Student Chapter’s women’s team at the 2024 National Mining Games in Brisbane and currently serving as Secretary of the AusIMM Sydney Branch. She is a 2025 recipient of the AusIMM Education Endowment Fund scholarship.
She is passionate about changing perceptions of the mining industry and encouraging more young women to pursue careers in mining.
