Dr. Rebecca Sproule

Dr Rebecca Sproule is a geologist with nearly three decades of international experience in mineral exploration, mining, and geoscience leadership.

Originally from Tasmania, Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Geology from the University of Tasmania and a PhD in Geology from Monash University. Over a career spanning more than 28 years, she has worked across five continents on a diverse range of mineral commodities, with experience covering exploration, project development and mining operations.

Rebecca has held senior technical and leadership roles with major mining companies, including Rio Tinto, where she provided geoscientific leadership across global exploration and resource development programs. Her career has encompassed greenfields exploration through to mine development and operations, delivering technical expertise in both industry and government settings.

Appointed Tasmania's Chief Government Geologist in 2024, Rebecca recently commenced as Chief Geologist and Head of the Geological Survey of New South Wales. In this role, she leads the state's geological survey, advancing pre-competitive geoscience, resource discovery, critical minerals development and investment attraction to support the sustainable growth of NSW's resources sector.
