James Macnae

James C. Macnae is a professor of geophysics RMIT University. He received a BSc (Math and Physics) and BSc Hons (Geophysics), both from the University of the Witwatersrand. He received his MSc and PhD (Physics) from the University of Toronto.

He is the author of numerous publications in the field of electrical methods in geophysics.

Macnae was awarded in 2010 the highest and most prestigious award of the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the Gold Medal. This was only the sixth such award in the organisation’s history, and the first to a scientist not already retired or on the verge of retirement. The citation (published in Preview, 148, p4, October 2010) ended with: “It is fitting that Jim now be recognised with the ASEG Gold Medal for exceptionally and highly significant distinguished contributions to the science and practice of exploration geophysics.
