Barada Barna woman and Chairperson of Barada Barna Aboriginal Corporation, traditional owner of Bowen Basin in Queensland with 30 coal mines on country. Luarna has been in the Minerals industry for 14 years. Commencing her career through the Thiess Sisters in Mining program, a traineeship incubator for new to industry Indigenous Women local to the region.
Her appointment to Chairperson of the Barada Barna Aboriginal Co-operation elevated Luarna to be one of the most significant people across the value chain in the region. One of her key roles is ensuring heritage and opportunities for employment and contracting are available for her people and that all proponents adher to via ILUA agreements.
Her commitment and outstanding leadership has recently been acknowledged on the global stage, with Luarna being named the in the 2022 cohort of Top 100 most Influential Women in Mining, globally. The highly commended Women In Mining UK awards connects influential global leaders in a proactive effort to leading better outcomes for participation.
