Luis Talavera

Luis Andre Talavera is an experienced mining professional with over 15 years of international experience spanning open-pit and underground operations across Peru, Chile, and Australia. He has successfully led initiatives across multiple commodities.

Luis began his career in Peru with Glencore’s underground operations, followed by key mining execution roles at the Escondida Copper Mine in Chile. In Australia, he played an active pivotal role in the rollout of Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) at Rio Tinto’s Yandicoogina mine—one of the company’s first autonomous operations. He later transitioned into leadership roles within the Brockman and Silvergrass mining hubs.

At BHP, Luis has held several senior positions, including Principal Engineer and Project Manager, where he led cross-functional mine planning and technology initiatives. Currently, as Superintendent Mine Planning, he oversees the integration of mine operations, the two-year mine planning budget cycle, and governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives.

Luis holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from UNSA (Peru), and dual Master’s degrees in Mineral Economics and Business Administration from Curtin University (Australia).
