Rae O’Brien was appointed Thiess Group Executive – Australia East in February 2024.
With 30 years’ mining experience in site and corporate operational management, technical, business planning, risk, and strategy functions, Rae is a respected mining industry leader with extensive experience.
Her career has been focused on holistic management, understanding and integrating disparate functions within an operation or company, addressing key operational and technical risks, understanding key value drivers for business decisions, as well as organisational culture.
Rae’s academic achievements include a Master of Business Administration, a Bachelor of Mining Engineering, and various accreditations from the NSW Coal Qualifications Board.
She served as the Voluntary Chair of ACARP (Australian Coal Association Research Program) – an initiative focused on the future of sustainable coal mining, which Thiess is actively pursuing, and was appointed Chairperson of the ACRL Board after being an active committee member for several years.
