In 2012, he received his PhD in nonlinear optical physics from the University of Adelaide. Following a brief postdoctoral term at the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing, he worked for The Defence Science and Technology Organisation for six years on optical communications technologies. Sean also co-founded Sensability during this time, which has licenced its proprietary optical sensing technologies to a major international homewares manufacturer.
Sean departed DSTO in 2018 to work for Ziltek in the private sector. As Ziltek's Chief Scientific Officer, he was responsible for enhancing existing capabilities and discovering new applications for the company's core technology, RemScan. He has since been promoted to CEO.
