Alastair Morton is the Director of Mines and leads Mineral Resources Tasmania (MRT) in advancing responsible mineral exploration and development across the State. He oversees Tasmania’s geoscience programs, industry regulation, and strategic initiatives that support a sustainable, competitive, and well‑governed mining sector.
With nearly two decades of experience across natural resource management, Alastair has held senior roles in both Building Tasmania and Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) Tasmania. His career spans the management of complex regulatory frameworks across wild fisheries, aquaculture, forestry, and mining, delivering priority industry projects and supporting government decision‑making in fast‑moving operational environments.
Since joining Mineral Resources Tasmania as Director in mid‑2023, Alastair has focused on strengthening industry engagement, enhancing regulatory clarity, and supporting the growth and innovation of Tasmania’s dynamic minerals and mining sector.
