As an Environmental and Chemical Engineer, Leigh has held a range of operational, commercial, project and strategy roles across the international resources sector, including ExxonMobil, Santos and Rio Tinto. She is a passionate advocate towards future-proofing Australian heavy industry and manufacturing and has held tenures as the Site General Manager of the Port Bonython Refinery in South Australia and Boyne Aluminium Smelters in Gladstone.
Leigh is currently an Industry Professor at the UQ Sustainable Minerals Institute where she is supporting the commercialisation of research and industry engagement through the Trailblazer Program. She is also the Founder and Managing Director of Banksia Minerals, an early-stage minerals processing company developing a breakthrough copper refining technology from UQ. Through both of these endeavours Leigh and her teams are testing and building new pathways for mining technology development and deployment.
